officer wounded in a shootout with robbery suspects. how is the officer and where are the suspects? and rain hit the bay area in a big way. are we facing a weekend washout? how about the work week ahead? good morning, everyone. i'm terry mcsweeney. we've asked the questions, let's get the answers. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning, everyone. the timing on these two systems pretty good because we really are looking at the rain showers ending throughout the morning hours. the embarcadero right now lit up pretty nicely and the showers are with us for sure. they will be tapering off throughout the morning hours. here's a live look. you see most of the activity in the north bay here and some of the heavier returns in between santa rosa and petaluma. highway 101. so definitely watch out here. some moderate rain over into sonoma. and lighter rain heading to

hayward and further south we get the rain shadow effect where the rain is held back from the south bay. so you are looking dry right now, but rainfall amounts will continue to add up throughout the overnight hours as our second colder system comes our way. but a break this afternoon. numbers in the 60s. today the warmer day. terry. >> thanks very much. >> san jose police spent much of the night searching the area around a high school after a chase of armed robbery suspects turned into a shootout, leaving one officer injured. happened shortly after 9:00. suspects were spotted by police of. there was a high-speed chase. one suspect jumped out and fired at police. officers were injured when several rounds his his police car. >> one round struck the officer or ricocheted and struck the officer but he was injured as a result of that. a second officer who was on scene jumped out of his car, returned fire. >> one suspect ran away and another got back in a car and

was last seen near over hilt high. the officer was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. there will be a live update from the scene coming up in the newscast. a chp office he was not seriously hurt when his car rolled over last night. it happened during a rainy period about 10:00. not clear what caused the single-car rollover. the officer was check out at an officer. obviously the rain is here and it was really coming down in the north bay last night. we went up there to show you how folks were coping. >> the steady rain did not wash out this playoff game in owner park. >> how are they doing not rain? >> lot of fumbles. >> a wet ball is hard to hold on to and both sides of losing it it. >> this game between the cougars and the knights, rain-soaked players still managed to make some big moves. off the field the rain prompted some last minute sales of a

chung tung. he robbed a bank of america bank in the richmond district earlier this month. he gave a note a teller saying he was armed and got away with $700 in cash. he never did show the weapon. he faces robbery charges of robbery and burglary. the military for israel said they responded to attacks launched by hamas. the targets are linked to top supply tunnels and the massive police come bound in gaza. home of a hamas ledder was hit. he was not home at the time. militants have unleashed some 500 rockets against israel, including new longer-range rockets that have hit tel aviv and jerusalem. there will be more coming up at 7:00. >> the attacks triggered a

protest in san francisco yesterday. the pro palestinian demonstrators want to see an end. but the israeli supporters said their nation is acting in self-defense. >> and a train collided with a school bus carrying kindergartners killing at least 47. it occurred as the bus crossed the track. others are still missing. officials say it appears the railroad crossing was not closed as the train sped toward it. egypt's train has a poor safety record. and also, possible bomb components found in a carry-on bag. new information about the man arrested at oakland airport. and lake tahoe ski resorts prepare for another big

>> this is abc7 news. >> authorities in missouri arrested a man they say planned to shoot up a theater during the showing of the twilight movie. his name is blake. his mother turned him in. she told police she thought he intended to shoot people at the movie. he purchased two automatic wins and hundreds of bullets. she said it remind her of the attack in colorado this year with the opening of "the dark knight" show. the police said he is mentally ill and not on his medication. we are learning more about the man arrested at oakland international airport. they believe he tried to sneak bomb materials through security. we have what we've learned about the suspect. >> abc7 news learned 49-year-old

jeffrey told investigators he was an artist, carrying artwork through the airport last night, not components that could be used to make a bomb as police believed. we did some digging and found this website for jeff, who appears to be in creative media. higgs linked-in profile said he's a executive creative director and producer for generated content in the greater los angeles area. but click on his link and you are out of luck. he was arrested last night at the airport. he was on his way home in southern california. we are told he took off his watch and put it in a bin with his carry i don't know and covered in with coat. >> the watch had on it a toggle switch, a series of fuses, a series of wires protruding from it, a circuit board. >> the alameda county sheriff's department said even though he was not in possess eggs of explosives, the bomb squad

determined he had what was needed to make a timing device for a bomb. and his boots were two sizes too big and stuffed with layers of in soles, just like the shoe bomber, richard read. >> he had what appeared to be a homemade cavity in there. >> an area where things could be stashed. and his shirt was military style. it was what soldiers can use to stop the bleeding it if their arm is injured. and police want to find out what was really going on. nelson said there is always the concern that this could have been a dry run. in the newsroom, abc7 news. a group of nudists plan to protest in san francisco today hoping to convince supervisors to vote against a proposed ban on nudity this week. they marched naked to the federal courthouse yesterday. they are seeking a court order in support of what they call a fundamental freedom. they are filing a class action lawsuit to prevent the city from asking the ban. it is sponsored by the supervisor, and many of his

constituents are sick of the so-called naked guys taking over the plaza in his district. the follow workers will have a job for another march. the tolls that are in addition to the fast track will replace the workers but first new testing feeds to be done. using electronic tolls could save an estimated $19 million over the next eight years. biodiesel fuel and now available at street corner stations for individual consumers for the first time in the bay area, for the first time in the nation, for that matter. it's made possible by a partnership of two peninsula-based companies. here's david louie with the story. >> reporter: it locks like an ordinary corner gas station but the fuel is far from ordinary. it's a blended biodiesel. it's made from feeding plant based sugar to he willgy. it produced fewer pick plants,

20% less carbon dioxide and less carbons. it's offered at four locations in the bay area with more in the works. >> we are showing what the future is going to look like. we hope that others will follow suit and, you know, follow our example and bring cleaner fuels to the public. >> at $4.23 a gallon, it costs the same as regular diesel. however, they expect the price to fall into the same range at gasoline as it ramps up production. bob ames is the price president of fuels. >> we have one facility that is producing demonstration scale quantities of our oil, that's in peoria, illinois. and we are building plants, thee first one in brazil, but we have others we haven't yet announce bud are coming online in the future. and it is expected to be strong for demand in fleets. they have been working with the navy, carmakers on alternative fuels to redeuce foreign --

game-day decisions about running that one as well. they decided they would on sunday. >> thanksgiving is big for resorts. it's typically the first big weekend that all the resorts get. and it just kicks off the season. especially coming off last year. >> sierra ski resorts really will have something to be it thankful for next week if the storms come in this week and clear out in time for the weekend for the skiers to get up here. abc7 news. he'sa is here with the story that's impacting every single one of us one way or another today. we have the rain coming down. it was pouring on southbound 101 in marin county this morning. just coming down. >> we have wind to talk about this afternoon after the system exits and a stronger system tonight. definitely impacting us for the weekend. but in between we are look at the breaks. as we head outside from the roof camera, that's a cool shot. you can see it through the clouds there. we have the light rain falling in parts of the bay.

oakland has a little over a third of an inch. and over an inch up in the north bay from the civic center and over that up to around mount saint helena and saint rosa. live doppler 7 hd putting it all in motion for you and you notice the waves of rain continue to push through the bay area this morning but we are on the back edge of it. so we will begin to see the rain taper on off throughout the morning hours. here's a look around highway 101 east of santa rosa. look around rona park. also sonoma, and down to novato and san rafael. and look at the east bay. light rain here. mist and drizzle through berkeley, san leandro and hayward. we just picked up .08 at the fire station there. and notice the central coast, some light rain here. this continues to rotate in and it is a mild air mass so

temperatures are pretty, you know, comfortable out there. 57 redwood city. 60 mountain view with 60 in san jose. here's a look at some of the fog. the visibility has been reduced with a mile and three quarters around concord, three files sfo, two and a half files around the bay and santa rosa. we are looking at the fog and as the front continues to push through we get the lull in the afternoon. colder tonight and winds will pick up throughout the day today. we look for dry conditions most of the day tomorrow but with the passage of a colder and stronger front through the overnight hours tonight. it will be a chilly take tomorrow. here's a look at the first system. the area of low pressure sits offshore. that continues to rotate in and then it's this system that is cues up to bring the colder system tonight with the rainfall amounts really beginning to stack up. so here we are this morning. notice the heavier rain up in the north bay. here comes our low throughout the afternoon today. so much of today, some sunshine.

not a bad afternoon but by 4:00 up in the north bay, north of santa rosa, you are getting wet. by 5:00 the front is marching southward. by 9:00 it's trying to push through the central bay and throughout the evening hours. we begin to dry up. 9:00 tomorrow morning looking pretty good out there. but between now and tomorrow morning, we are looking at one to two inches in the north bay, three quarters to inch and a half along the peninsula. about an inch to half inch in the east bay and the winter weather advisory. right now very mild but the snow coming down tomorrow with 8 to 12 inches above 7,000 feet. the second system a better snowmaker. 60 today with the scattered showers mainly in the morning hours. 63 in oakland with 63 in morgan hill. that kind of seems to be the popular number. we are looking at the overnight rain. tonight some moderate to heavy rain and then we look for the break the rest of the day.

>> topping our news this half-hour, california's high-speed rail project will continue as scheduled at least for now. a judge has turned down an attempt by farmers to stop the project in the central valley where it is expected to break ground next summer. however, the legal fight is far from over, here's nannette miranda. >> the future of california's controversy 800-mile $68 billion high-speed rail project hinges on the outcome of a lawsuit filed by lawsuits, water districts and other opposing interests in the central valley. that's where the first segment is expected to break ground next summer. >> they are not following that are own guidelines them are supposed to minimize impact to farmers, they did not. they are supposed to listen to people, they did not. >> the plaintiffs are asking for a six month injunction, hotting the work so they can prove california failed to conduct

thorough environmental reviews. if they had, they would say, the environmental impact reviews or eirs would show having a bullet train running through the middle of farm lands and irrigation fields would adversely affect agriculture. >> we are looking at a situation where a farmer might have to drive five miles to get from one side of his farm to another because there's a railroad right-of-way down the middle. >> authorities for the high-speed rail authority argue the environmental reviews were done importantly and emphasize a delay could add to the already high price taking. >> 8 to $10 million if the court issues an injunction for six months. that would be their request. >> not to mention a delay to also jeopardize billions of dollars in federal grant money that must be spent by 2017. in the end the judge denied the preliminary injunctions which means barring other potential

delays. the plaintiffs are considering taking their case to federal court. abc7 news. new this morning, president obama is on his way to southeast asia for a three-nation tour that would include burma. he is on his way to tie lapped today with events planned tomorrow. he will return to washington on wednesday just in time for thanksgiving. before he left the president recorded his weekly address urging the extension of tax cuts for most americans while raising taxes on the wealthiest americans. >> we shouldn't hold the middle class hostage while congress debates tax breaks for the wealthy. let's do what we agreed on, let's keep taxes low for the middle class and let's get it done soon so we can give families and businesses good news going into the holiday season. >> they say raising taxes on people who own small businesses would be bad news for businesses and families because they would be force today lay off thousands of workers. there is improving news on

the california job front. the unemployment rate went down one tent after percent since september and part of a steady decline. about 36,000 people were hired in october. most of them, however, for seasonal retail jobs. the california jobless rate has fallen 1.4% since october of 20 is 111 with the state adding 295,000 nonfarm jobs. a consumer group has lost its fight to make google pay a stiffer penalty for side-stepping privacy settings in apple's web browser. as jonathan bloom explains, the ruling comes with growing concern that web companies know too much what we do online. >> on the 19th floor of this building. the consumer watchdog wind head-to-head with google and lost. >> these guys are buying their way out of a jam which is just what is pocket change. it's unacceptable. >> the group was trying to get the judge to raise the $22.5 million fine google is paying as part of a settlement

research and said gagger is the biggest tracker. they explain why >> watch what people do and how they behave, you learn from motivates them. and that's really the key to understanding what people will be most likely to want to buy. >> she worries advertisors could use the data to show different people different prices. how to avoid that? >> you probably need to block advertisements if they want to protect their privacy online. >> abc7 news. >> well, new this morning, and happening this morning, the boy scouts are conducting one of the nation's largest food drives today going door to door, clerking nonperishable food tore local food banks. here in the bay area more than 40,000 scouts will be picking up boxed or bag food placed on door steps. that food has ton on your doorstep by 9:00 this morning please. the drive is called scouting for food. the bay area goal is collecting 450,000 pounds of food this year. if you live along a collection route, you have already received a door hanger telling you about

competing against each other. >> i think people working in teams do extraordinary things that they won do for themselves >> regardless what have describe you are in. >> they learn all the fundamental of business and traditional classes. they are taught not through instruct torts but executives from companies. and it ended with them pitching a business idea to a panel of venture capitalists. each student had two minutes to make their case. this person won the competition and she got funding for her idea. a better testing device to detect ovarian cysts. he she said draper university changed her life. >> i only have a prototype. i have a product that is working in human tissue. i have a term sheet for the next round of funding, which will be a total of 4-month-old. >> those we spoke to at the open house all said that the school adistracted them because of its

>> nen who hosts thanksgiving dinner knows how much work it is. so a good store-bought stuffing can help release some of the stress in the catchen. here's 7 on your side's michael finney with a stuffing taste test. >> good morning. the stuffing has got to taste good. the consumer reports tests finds not all store-bought ones do. >> a moist, perfectly browned turkey is a must on thanksgiving. but it still isn't complete without a delicious stuffing. now preparing a holiday dinner from scratch is a lot of work. so can you wow your guests with a store-bought stuffing? consumer reports tested 11 to see if you can cut a few corners and still get tasty results. testers looked at ones from stove top, arnold, pep ridge farm and even great value from wal-mart. each stuffing was prepared according to directions, adding ingredients like butter or marchger in, celery, onion and

broth. >> we want it had to have a pressure broth favor, nonbullion and taste the fresh vegetables, not dried or dried stuff. >> most of chewy vegetables, dried seasonings, overpowering herbs and a less flavor. but testers say there's hope. two from pep ridge firm, the herbed seasoned and cornbread stuffing or fresh tasting, flavor full and moist. >> both of the pep ridge farm ones called tore fresh ingredients. it's a little more work but it's worth it for the taste. >> both would be a tasty addition to your thanksgiving dinner and no one need ever know the stuffing isn't homemade. >> well, wouldn't mistake turkey stuffing for a health food, consumer reports said you can make it a little healthier by reducing the fat and salt. you can use a lower sodium broth to do that or cut back on the

amount of butter and add more fresh veggies and herbs for more flavor instead of adding for salt. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. >> lisa is here. i know you are ready for thanksgiving but you don't have to do that much because you are not the cook, right? >> oh, to. i do plenty. >> who cooks? >> it's a joint effort at my house. >> your husband does the work. >> i know. >> you pour the wine. >> sure, yeah, i can do that. good morning, everybody. we are starting out with the wet weather. it is winding down, this second system. we've had three and the last one should write the heavier rain. right now it's raining in the sierra nevada with lake tahoe reporting light rain showers. 37 degrees. here's a look at heavenly. the tahoe valley airport, 39 degrees. so with this very warm system we are going to wait until the next one where we change on over to snow and the snow levels begin to lower. 6:51, the official sunrise,

setting at 4:57. that's ten hours three minutes of date. here's a look downtown. and you will notice the roadways are wet. but this system is winding down. here's evidence of that. live doppler 7 hd. you will notice as we put it in motion for you, we are on the wack edge of it. but the heavier rain continues to fall well to the north of us. the spottier showers in the east bay and the south bay. here's a look right now at some pretty good downpours from count saint helena. they have picked up over an inch of rain. and lighter returns down here, highway 101, petaluma, novato and heavy wane with vacaville and rio vista. be careful if you are headed that way. light returns here. then from redwood city to mountain view, light rain showers. it will continue to kind of wind on down. you notice the main rain is in

the north bay. mild temperatures. 60 in mountain view as well as san jose. the high temperatures are going to be just a few degrees from where we are right now. visibility produced out there with the fog, a mile three quarters in concord, two and a half in half moon bay. the airport at three miles and santa rosa at two and a half miles. with the rain it's definitely low going. we have the fog and between systems today we get a break so we have the lull. then the next system headed our way. the north bay should see the showers by 4:00, 5:00 this afternoon. it's a colder system, a stronger system but it's out of here once again by the early morning hours, salvaging much of the day tomorrow. tomorrow the cooler day out of the weekend. here's the system right now that continues to push on through. you will notice it's focused a little bit parallel and south of the bay area. and with that the warmer, moister air with that system.

and then tonight here comes the colder system. of that's good for the snow making and mother nature helping out in the sierra nevada. here we are this morning. notice how quickly the stem pushes on through. by the noon hour we are partly cloudy. four o'clock this afternoon rain headed to santa rosa and you pushing on through the north bay. here we are by the overnight hours and there's the front. we will look for the rainfall amounts to continue to add up. another inch in the north bay. so that will give us about two inches total. half-inch to an inch east bay. snow levels high right now. they will continue to lower with almost two feet above 7,000 feet. just a couple inches at lake level. lower 60s today. so actually numbers not much warmer than we are experiencing right now. and then you will notice that the breaks for most of the day tomorrow, just a chance in the north bay monday. another chance tuesday, but we do dry out wednesday and thanksgiving. >> wednesday the big travel day. it's going to be pretty good? >> it does look pretty good
